Nassau County resident Allen Jose Corona of Malverne was arrested on Monday, Nov. 4 following an incident that occurred in Rye, according to an announcement made by the City of Rye Police Department on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
At around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, a resident of Louden Woods told police that a man had tried entering her home. A search of the area and a look at security footage produced an image of the man, prompting an investigation into the incident.
Hours later, just before 6:30 p.m., a group of women playing mahjong saw a suspicious car in the area of North Street and The Ives at Rye neighborhood. Officers were able to confirm that this vehicle had been stolen out of Malverne earlier in the day, according to the department.
Arriving officers found Corona standing outside of the vehicle and took him into custody. He was found in possession of the stolen vehicle's keys; 50 pills in an unmarked package; a screwdriver; and a razor-scraping tool, police said.
The department added that he was also identified as the same man who tried breaking into the Louden Woods home earlier in the day.
Corona was arrested without incident and charged with:
- Fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property;
- Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance;
- Possession of burglary tools;
- Third-degree criminal trespassing.
Corona was also turned over to the Nassau County Police Department to face charges back home. He will appear in the Rye City Court on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
